Our History

HAL Holding N.V., our parent company, has a rich history dating back to 1873. For most of its history, the company operated ocean shipping and travel businesses. In 1989, the company sold its principal operating unit, Holland America Line, and since then has embarked on a strategy to build a diversified international holding company. All shares of HAL Holding N.V. are held by HAL Trust, which is publicly traded on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
